Kai Sauer
Mr. Sauer was nominated interim President of the Institute’s Board of Governors in September 2023, shortly after being appointed as Ambassador of Finland to Germany. He previously served four years as the Under-Secretary of State for Foreign and Security Policy at the Ministry for Foreign Affairs of Finland. Before this he served as the Permanent Representative of Finland to the United Nations in New York (2014-2019), and as the Ambassador of Finland to Indonesia, Timor-Leste and ASEAN (2010-2014). Mr. Sauer has worked for the Finnish Foreign Ministry for nearly 25 years and also served in Croatia, Kosovo, Austria and the US. He has held several senior UN positions.
He is a former Governor of Finland to the Institute, serving in this position since 2019.
