Maria del Pilar Barbosa

María del Pilar Barbosa is the Civil Society Expert and Colombia Focal Point of the Institute’s Latin America Programme.

Before joining the Institute, she was the Coordinator for the Non-Repetition Objective (2019-2021) at the Colombian Truth Commission. Prior to this, she was the Deputy Director of Participation (2017-2019) of the Colombian Territorial Renewal Agency, one of the entities mandated to implement the 2016 Peace Agreement, where she led the methodological design and participatory process of the Territorially Focused Development Programs (PDETs). María del Pilar worked as a Thematic Advisor at the Office of the High Commissioner for Peace during the peace talks with the FARC (2012-2017) and was part of the teams of the Colombian Government’s National Security Advisor (2011-2012) and the Ministry of National Defence (2007-2011). She is currently also an Associate at the Institute for Integral Transitions (IFIT).

María del Pilar is an economist specialised in government and public policy from the Universidad de la Salle, and holds a master’s degree in Development Studies from the Universidad de los Andes.
