Nela Riehl

Nela Riehl is a member of the European Parliament since June 2024, having been elected as one of three representatives for Volt Germany. Together with their Dutch counterpart, they form the new five-strong Volt delegation in the EP, part of the Greens/EFA group.
She chairs the Committee for Culture and Education, tapping into her former career as secondary teacher. Her work focuses on improving access to public education, raising civic-, basic-, and digital skills, and tackling disinformation across Europe and beyond, with a special interest in using education for global equity and international cooperation. She is also member of the Committee for Employment and Social Rights.
Nela is married and has two children. Originally from Hamburg, they live together in Brussels.
