Yemen’s Southern Women for Peace Group participate in Skills Enhancing Training

04/11/2020

Yemen’s Southern Women for Peace Group (SWFPG) took part in a skills enhancement training between 25-27 October with the support of the European Institute of Peace.

The training focused on feminist movements, the policy cycle in Yemen and conducting gender analysis following requests from the SWFPG during online consultations held with the Institute in summer 2020.

Due to travel limitations caused by Covid-19 special measures were taken to bring the women together in a safe and socially distanced manner in their respective governorates to ensure they had internet access to receive the training. Women from Abyan, Lahj, Shabwa, Hadhramaut, Aden and AL Mahrah participated.

The training was facilitated by Andrew Marshall and Cate Buchanan and adapted from previous sessions delivered to the Technical Advisory Group to the Office of the Special Envoy in September.

Laura Mitchell, Senior Gender Advisor at the Office of the Special Envoy, briefed the SWFPG on the upcoming work at the Office of the Special Envoy on gender and participated in the sessions.

The European Institute of Peace will continue to work with the SWFPG on ways to use the training to enhance skills and develop a gender sensitive approach to conflict.
