ABIR GUENOUN
Abir Guenoun joined the Institute in May 2024 as the Middle East and Gulf Programme Officer where she coordinates track 1.5 dialogue and mediation initiatives in the wider Gulf and Middle East region within the Engagement, Dialogue, and Process Design (EDP) Unit.
Prior to joining the Institute, Abir worked for over 10 years in both Europe and MENA region on peacebuilding, mediation, conflict resolution/prevention, democracy, rule of law and human rights at different organisations, mainly UN (United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime, United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees), EU (EU Agency for Asylum and European Parliament), and non-governmental organisations (NGOs).
She holds Master degrees in law (Governance and Development Funding, International and EU Law, and International Humanitarian Law) from The International Institute of Humanitarian Law and The Institute of the Right of Peace and Development (University of Nice Sophia Antipolis, France). Abir speaks English, French and Arabic (Modern Standard Arabic and the different Arabic dialects spoken across the region – Maghreb, Mashreq and Gulf).
