Albert Martinez

Albert Martinez is a Programme Manager at the European Institute of Peace. He manages the Institute’s Climate and Environmental Peacemaking Programme, with focus on the Sahel, Horn of Africa, and the Middle East.

Prior to joining the Institute in January 2023, Albert worked for over three years at the United Nations Environment Programme in Geneva, as an Analyst and Programme Management Support in Climate Security, from 2019 to 2022. His work involved coordinating environmental peacebuilding strategies to strengthen resilience to complex climate change and security risks in fragile and conflict-affected contexts. Between 2017 and 2019, Albert conducted academic research on the political, social, and economic impacts of the mining and oil industries in South America and Sub-Saharan Africa, and coordinated an international marine conservation NGO in Spain.

Albert is a member of the Environmental Peacebuilding Association, and holds an MA in International Administration and Conflict Management from the University of Konstanz (Germany), an MSc in Political Science from the Pompeu Fabra University (Spain), and a BSc in Environmental Science from the University of Barcelona (Spain).
