Alejandra Tapia Basanta
Alejandra Tapia Basanta joined the Institute in 2024 as a Trainee supporting the Palestine-Israel Programme.
Prior to her role at the Institute she worked as a Research Officer for the Next Century Foundation producing research about the Middle East and supporting their dialogue and peacebuilding work. After this, she moved to Tunisia where she gained international work experience and further improved her Arabic skills. She also has experience in community-based initiatives and academic research. Her research focuses on Middle Eastern Christian communities and on decolonising knowledge production about the Middle East – her MA thesis explored the Syriac Christian community’s experiences of the Syrian civil war and was based on interviews with members of the community.
Alejandra holds an MA in Middle East Politics and Arabic, during which she studied abroad in Jordan, as well as a BA in Politics, Philosophy and Economics, both from the University of Exeter, UK. She speaks Spanish, English and Arabic.
