Ayman Ahmed Namek

Ayman Namek joined the European Institute of Peace (EIP) in December 2022 as Senior Advisor in the Middle East team. He comes with a background in strategic thinking and a long career in research and analysis of global and Middle East political, economic and security trends. A graduate of the American University in Cairo class of 1989 with a major in political science, he has studied developments in regional conflict areas for years and has a deep understanding of regional dynamics and their effect on countries’ external affairs, governance structures and populations.  

Previously intelligence officer in the Egyptian General Intelligence from 1993 to 2019, analyst and desk officer in the Information and Analysis Directorate assessing regional crises and conflicts, preparing and presenting risk assessments, he also served in the Foreign Liaison Directorate where he developed and maintained relations with foreign intelligence services, exchanging information and views on current political situations and crises, and conducting country studies pertaining to internal political developments and foreign relations. His work led him to serve in the Egyptian Embassy in Paris as First secretary (2004-2008) and Counsellor for political affairs (2011-2014).
