Björn Kühne

Björn Kühne has joined the European Institute of Peace as a Senior Advisor to the Engagement, Dialogue and Process Design unit in 2025. He has been working on conflict resolution and crisis management for more than 25 years in various roles with of the European Union (EU) and the Organisation for Security and Cooperation in Europe (OSCE), with focus on the wider European space and the Middle East.
Before joining the Institute, he was based in Jerusalem, working with the EU on the Middle East peace process. This followed more than a decade of engagement in the South Caucasus, including leading mediation efforts on behalf of the EU between Georgia and the Russian Federation, as well as supporting normalisation between Armenia and Azerbaijan at governmental levels and managing and supporting track two processes. Between 1998 and 2009 Björn worked on conflict resolution efforts in South-Eastern Europe with the EU and the OSCE. He has extensive diplomatic and mediation experience in sensitive conflict settings, has led mediation and negotiation efforts at senior government levels and has a solid record of developing and implementing crisis management and conflict resolution strategies at local, national and regional levels.
Björn holds a master’s degree in political science from the Free University of Berlin and a bachelor’s degree in international relations from the University of Kent in Canterbury.
