Cate Buchanan

Cate Buchanan has been a Senior Advisor to the European Institute of Peace since 2023. She specialises in mediation and process design, and inclusive conflict analysis. In 2020 she was the Editor of Accord 29 for Conciliation Resources: Pioneering peace pathways–making connections to end violent conflict. In 2020/21 she was a Senior Advisor to the Office of the Special Envoy of the UN Secretary-General for Yemen. In 2018-19 she was a member of the UN Mediation Support Unit’s Standby Team of Experts.
Previously, she was Senior Advisor to the Nyein (Shalom) Foundation Myanmar and armed groups involved in the 2015 ceasefire process and national dialogues from 2015-2017. Prior to that she was Chief Editor of ‘Gun Violence, Disability and Recovery.’ From 2001-2013, she was a Programme Manager and Senior Advisor with the Centre for Humanitarian Dialogue.
Since 2021, Cate has been the Conflict Advisor to the Myanmar Livelihoods and Food Security Fund and has managed a peace coaching process in Myanmar. Cate also advises the Nyein Foundation, UN Women Afghanistan, UN Mediation Support Unit, the Australian Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade Support Unit for Gender Equality and others.
