Eddy Mbona

Eddy Mbona joined the European Institute of Peace in March 2023 as the Great Lakes and Southern Africa Advisor. He brings over 15 years of experience in mediation, political affairs, and international relations, particularly through his significant contributions to the 2019 Bangui Peace Agreement within the Economic Community of Central African States (ECCAS).

Mbona’s career includes roles within the International Conference on the Great Lakes Region (ICGLR), United Nations agencies (UNDP, UNOPS), and as a political affairs officer with the United Nations Multidimensional Integrated Stabilization Mission in the Central African Republic (MINUSCA).  He also served as the Chargé d’Affaires at the Burundi Embassy in Nigeria.

He is fluent in French, English, Italian, Swahili, and other Great Lakes languages and holds a Master’s Degree in Social Sciences and a Bachelor of Arts in Economic Development from the Pontifical Gregorian University in Rome, Italy.
