Hans Hoebeke
Hans Hoebeke joined the European Institute of Peace in August 2023 as the Great Lakes and Southern Africa Advisor. Hans has covered the Central African region for more than 20 years with a focus on the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC).
He covered the DRC as senior analyst for the International Crisis Group (ICG) between 2014 and 2019 from Nairobi, co-founded the Africa Program at the Egmont Institute in Brussels, where he is still a senior associate fellow and worked on African peace and security issues at the Clingendael Institute in The Hague. He started his career as a civil servant in Belgium where he started at the Africa desk in the Foreign Ministry and later covered the Central African region at the Ministry of Defence.
Hans is fluent in Dutch, English and French and holds a Master’s Degree in International Relations from Ghent University (Belgium).
