Mohamud Mohamed Khadar

Mohamud Mohamed Khadar is an expert in environmental governance, environmental peacemaking, and climate security, with extensive experience in policy formulation and the integration of climate governance into peacebuilding in fragile and conflict-affected settings. At Somalia’s Ministry of Environment and Climate Change, he played a central role in the development of critical national frameworks, including the National Environmental Policy, the National Climate Change Policy, and the Environmental Protection and Management Act (2024).
Mohamud has worked for international organizations such as UNDP, the Global Water Partnership, and the European Institute of Peace (EIP), advancing climate resilience, peacebuilding, and climate-security initiatives. As Team Leader and Coordinator of EIP’s Environmental Peacemaking Project in Somalia, he coordinated national dialogues between the Federal Government and Federal Member States, promoting collaboration at the nexus of climate action, peacebuilding, and conflict resolution.
He holds a Master’s degree in International and European Governance from Leiden University (The Netherlands). Mohamud participated in global climate negotiations as a climate and environmental expert, including COP26, COP27, COP28, and COP29.
