Zakaria Zahar
Zakaria joined the European Institute of Peace’s Middle East and Gulf team as a Trainee in August 2023. He graduated from the College of Europe in Bruges, in 2023, where he specialised in the EU’s external action. In his final thesis, he analysed the EU’s Humanitarian-Development-Peace (HDP) nexus role in conflict prevention in the MENA region. He previously worked as a trainee at the European Parliament’s Committee on Foreign Affairs (AFET), where he focused on the Southern Neighbourhood.
Zakaria is interested in peacemaking, peacebuilding, and conflict resolution matters in the MENA region. He speaks English, French and Spanish next to his native Italian and Moroccan Arabic.
He holds a Master’s degree in International Affairs from Sciences Po Lille and a Bachelor’s degree in Political Science from the University of Padua.
